Ban Dak Xieng: The Heart of the Triang People
Location & Access:
Located in the Dak Cheung District of Sekong Province, Ban Dak Cheung A is a traditional community of the Triang ethnic group. Situated 53 kilometers from the main district center, the journey takes approximately 2 hours.
Education & Local Spirit:
Ban Dak Cheung A is committed to its youth. The village maintains its own primary school, where classes are taught by dedicated members of the local community. For secondary education, students travel to Chiang Luang. In a display of local resilience and camaraderie, these young men and women walk 2 to 3 hours back to their village every weekend to reunite with their families.
Community & Livelihood:
The village is home to 408 residents (including 220 women) across 84 households. Life here is deeply connected to the land; the local economy is driven primarily by coffee cultivation and lowland rice farming
The Landscape & Challenges:
The journey to the village offers a glimpse into the rugged beauty of the region, though it presents challenges during the monsoon season. In the rainy months, access can become difficult, and heavy floods from the Chiang Mai River occasionally rise high enough to damage bridges, temporarily cutting the road link to the community
